The problem
What the homeowner was dealing with
The homeowner's walls felt cold to the touch, and every winter mould was developing on them. A cold internal wall surface is one of the conditions in which condensation and surface mould can form, so the aim was to give the room a warmer internal wall surface without changing how the room looked or was used.
During the work
How the job was done
The walls were prepared first, then AeroCork internal cork insulation was applied across them. Rather than stopping at the edge of the window, the cork was carried across the window head and into the reveal, so the insulation continues around the opening instead of leaving a colder strip beside the frame. Once the cork coat was on, the walls were plastered over the top and flattened off to a smooth finish.

The result
How the room was left
The internal wall surface is warmer than the bare wall was, which reduces the conditions that encourage surface condensation and mould. These walls will now perform differently with the cork applied. The room was handed back flat, clean and ready to decorate.
