The problem
What the homeowner was dealing with
This is a Victorian building with traditional construction. On walls like these, a dense modern gypsum finish isn't always the right choice, so the job called for a breathable, lime-based plaster that is more sympathetic to how the building was put together.
During the work
How the job was done
We applied two coats of Breathaplasta, a lime-based breathable plaster system, to the walls and carried the same finish across the ceiling. Each coat was trowelled on and flattened off, taking the lime right up to the window reveals so the room has one consistent finish.

Why lime
Why lime on walls like these
Older, traditionally built walls were designed to take up moisture and let it go again. A lime-based plaster stays vapour-permeable, so the wall can keep handling moisture rather than being sealed behind a dense modern finish.
Lime is also more compatible with traditional backgrounds — solid stone and brick, older plaster and previous repairs. The right system always depends on how a wall is built and what condition it's in, which is why we look at what's there before recommending anything.
